After 3 years 4 months and 6 days
we have a brand new beautiful official lawyer!
The light in my life
The apple of my eye
We are like two peas in a pod
No, I am not a lawyer but that was the best compliment Mr. Gates (not Bill)
ever gave me!
My niece Sarah and I are like two peas in a pod!
Go ahead....throw your best lawyer joke at me!
I can take it.
Let me tell you..they don't make it easy on you to become a lawyer in this beautiful state of Arizona. First you have your degree from the Arizona State University (4 years).
Then you take your entrance exam for law school...study..study..study.
woo hoo...Aunt Sheryl...I got accepted!!!
Then you study study study 16 hours a day 7 days a week for three years.
You graduate from law school.
I think...oh goody...she's done...I get my niece back.
Noooo....then the real work begins!
You take a 6 week intensive study program for the bar!!
16 hours a day 6 days a week!
You take the bar exam.
I want to tell you a little story here.
My niece Sarah is very smart (I'm proud to say) but more than that she can be very focused and not much bothers her (that she lets show). The bar exam consists of two days...six hours each. The first day is multiple choice....200 questions...six hours for 200 questions!!! They are allowed to bring in no electronics...no food ...no water. They provide it all. I guess they think you might write some answers on your water bottle or something.
Anyway.....Sarah starts the exam...gets about 1/2 way done...
Goes into the bathroom and cries!!!
and cries!! and cries!!!
She doesn't think she can finish it...she doesn't think she is doing well at all.
They are allowed to stay in the bathroom for eight minutes.
She gathers herself....tells herself she is going to finish and do the best she can.
(thank goodness)
The second day is essay questions...six hours of essay questions.
Sarah is good at essay questions.
Then the real waiting begins...10 WEEKS to find out the results !!!
4:45 pm. Oct 7th....on line. tick tock tick tock....
We scroll down the list ...alphabetically...if you are on the list you pass...if you are not on the list you didn't pass.
Scroll....scroll...scroll...
There she is Sarah Nicole F____
OMGosh....we did it!!! (notice the we)....lol...
Whew...that was hard work!!!
AND.....she has a JOB already as a bona-fide real life lawyer!!!
She has been working for a law firm for the last two years as a para-legal doing the work of the lawyers. But now she will get lawyer pay!! But it is not just the money for Sarah...her favorite part of all of this was volunteering for the yearly adoption day for foster kids to become one with a forever family. I think that is what she will eventually specialize in.
Or the Supreme Court...who knows?...
Love you hon.....we are proud !!

I can tell you are just bursting at the seams about Sarah's new important role in life. That is so exciting ... I don't know her but I am proud of her, too, for she seems so dedicated and smart. Way to go, Sarah.
My congratulations. Glad it all workded out for her.
Congrats to her! Such a huge accomplishment. You aren't proud or anything are you? Miss ya, have a great weekend!
Congrats to her!!!
She is BEAUTIFUL!
Those bar and board (medical) exams are REAL killers.
When hubby took his the first time (they have to retake the medical boards every so many years to MAINTAIN their credentials) he called me (he was taking the test in NC, but we lived in IN at the time) at the end of the first day and he was nearly in tears thinking he had failed that first portion.
It scared me nearly spitless 'cause I was afraid if he allowed himself to worry so over the FIRST day he'd do poorly on the SECOND day.
Then that long wait - - - - - - - and guess what? When he got his results, not only did he PASS, but he got special commendations in the very area he thought he did so poorly in.
Whew - - - glad those days are OVER.
Now when he retests he doesn't get nearly as nervous.
Wow! I have a new respect fr lawyers. I had no idea it took so much to become one. Almost like becoming a doctor. Well congratulations to her and you for holding your breath so long. You are a great cheerleader!~Ames

Congratulations to the new lawyer. And you too afcg.
Congrats to the new grad. The young are so beautiful. That smooth flawless skin. The whites of their eyes is soooo white, it dazzles. Also white, even teeth and that's not even counting the genetic good looks. They are totally unaware of what they have. :) Thanks for stopping and leaving the lovely comment.

Dear Sheryl, thank you for commenting on my Tuesday posting about the convent. That comment led me your blog and I'm glad to be here.
Thanks for sharing with all of us your excitement for your niece and her achievements. How rewarding--after all those long years and hours and study--to find her name on that list.
She sounds like such a dear.
Peace.
Hi there.....Now I understand the lawyer comment on my blog!! Congrats to your beautiful niece....I know what a long hard road that was for her.....Daughter spent 4 years up at Cornell in that horrible weather in upstate New York.....she stayed on for another 3 years for law school....graduated Cum Laude...was on the deans list for all 7 years....I was with her up in Syracuse when she took the bar exam....she too passed on her first try.....She took a high priced job in NYC upon graduation.....they downsized a year later and let her go....she was devastated.....she came home to Georgia...one day later they attacked the World Trade Center.....I told her everything in life happens for a reason.....She got a position with a better firm where she has been for the past 9 years....She recently moved back into the city with her little daughter and will go back to full time work when Sophie goes to school next fall.....we have alot to be proud about with these fine young women....
Give your niece a big hug from me on her accomplishments!! Sue @ Rue-Mouffetard
Sheryl,
I think you remember that other than sharing the same name...I have a lawyer girl, too. I remember how grueling all of that was. When my daughter took the electronic bar..it all dissapeared! I'm mean like "bloop, it was gone!" She was sitting for the NY bar...it was AWFUL. They kept saying "we have back up...don't worry, it is all there..." well, I guess it was because she PASSED. She has now practiced for four years. I hate to tell you this...but the work isn't over yet. For some reason, firms try to KILL new lawyers. Ugh. I do think with each passing year it gets a little easier, but sometimes I wonder. They deserve those big bucks that they make because they work their little behinds off!
xo, Cheryl
Oh wow! You gotta love a success story.
She is beautiful. You can see her inner beauty and joy shining out of those lovely eyes.
Your pride is wonderful...and so are her accomplishments!
I would want this dynamo gal on my side of the court room. Hurray for her! I know you are so proud.
Congrats to Sarah - how impressive!!
Congratulations Sarah! What a Proud Moment for your Families!!! She is not only Smart but Beautiful... the entire package!
Dawn... The Bohemian
Wow, I just had goosebumps after reading your success story. Your niece must be very thankful of all the support you've given her! How is she doing? Law students would be very much inspired with her. I like the fact that she volunteers, too! Tell her to keep it up! :D
