A STRANGE PLACE FOR 2012.....

I find myself in a very strange place today...mentally.
I am taking everything out of my little house I don't actually love.
There is not much left.
Where did all this clutter sneak in?
When did all this mindless thinking start?
I'm thinking the computer may be on the list to go.
Three people I know have lost their jobs this month.
Those jobs are not coming back.
For the city of Phoenix and surrounding areas there are three pages of employment in the Sunday newspaper. Not long ago it was entire section.

For myself and Mr. Gates (not Bill) we are trying to hang onto what we have worked so hard for throughout our lives.  We might make it if we stay healthy.
Our saving grace was that we never used credit...we are the last small builders left standing.
The truth of the matter is that right now we could not build a house to sell for what the materials would cost...never mind the labor.
Hope and change never happened.
Think about it for 2012.
happy new year

I agree - we have to think long and hard before we buy something. I learned this the hard way while emptying my house. I am trying to be better about making purchases now that I am in my RV full-time. The problem with the "hope and change" is that those that believed in the slogan wanted someone to do things for them, instead of making the changes themselves. "Be the change you want to see."

I remember traveling home on the bus to the south side of Chicago on election night in 2008. The bus passed a lot of public housing, and most of the passengers lived in public housing (I didn't...); there was much jubilation on that bus that night.

At the time, I wondered to myself if these people who were thrilled about the election results realized that they would, in all likelihood, still be in public housing four years later. I suspect not...

May the new year bring good things to you and your family!

"Elections have consequences", I never realized how true and how very serious that statement is. The danger is that the percentage of people that now get some sort of government aid has increased to an alarming number, so will these people vote to keep the checks coming and will we be in danger of going over that cliff that we are on the edge of?...Phew...

Very good points by Teri and Susan!

I pray that 2012 brings all that your heart desires, my dear friend. xxoo

P.S. Don't get rid of the computer, we all need each other!

Feel comfort that you are not alone in your thoughts on change. What changed was the way we do business and I feel we will never go back to what used to be ever again. We've made major changes in the last few weeks with our retail stores. We will have to tighten up. I agree with Sherri, don't dump the computer yet!! You have a voice and I love to hear it. Happy New Year dear friend. Debi

We are feeling the results of the economy, too. My husband used to manage 5 employees. Now, he's down to 1..."downsizing"...I have a pay freeze and 5 "furlough" days this school year AND 32 kids! At least I still have a job...BUT...I'm counting the years until retirement!

Wishing a good year 2012 for you and your's.

Downsizing is a good thing to do regularly. Most of us have Too much Stuff. Getting back to basics is good too and sticking with people. So please don't trash the computer.

New Year can mean New changes.

Oh so much bad news for so many people this year. It breaks my heart to hear stories of the things people are going through. We have to keep our chins up and just know things will get better .Right? If we give in to the sadness and never look ahead we will never see light. I myself choose to see the light. You can see it I know you can. Peace to you and all of our friends that are in the dark right now.
Hugs my friend you know I am thinking of you there will be light I know it. Hug B

Oh- I hear you-We have taken such an economic hit in the past few years, too. Luckily, like you, we have never lived on credit and I do believe that has saved us from total economic ruin. I'm with you-save what is worth saving....and blessings to you in the New Year- xo Diana

I can't thing of having that much energy; grief has sucked everything out of me and left me bone dry. All I can manage is the essentials, mostly, each day. Some days not even that.
May the worst of 2012 be from the best of 2011; Happy New Year from Thistle Cove Farm.

I agree with your sentiments, but changed definitely happened. As for those idiots who voted for it, I'll remind them of the old vulgarism about hoping in one hand ans doing something else entirely in the other and seeing which one fills up first.

Very thought-provoking post.
You sound contented and grateful with this "cleansing".
Bless you in 2012!

This last year has been a hard one for many of us. I disagree, though, Hope happened, and the Change was for the worse. So Hope and Change DID happen, it just turned out to be a REALLY big negative. Unless you got some bailout millions. I didn't. You didn't. Lets hope 2012 will bring some positive changes.

The good part, though, is I have ME, and I'm happy and I'll make the best of what I have. You have YOU and MR. GATES. And that's a lot. :)

Many are having to re-think and re-invent their lives as well as their livelihood in order to make a living. This economy is eating up much of our middle class. I wish you and your husband all the best in 2012 in surviving what our govt. is doing to all of us.

Take care.

My wish for all of us in the new year is that it turns out better than any of us have reason to believe it will.

What is with humans and our love to accumulate stuff? I like your approach. But keep the computer.

How I hope people think about it this year and make the change that is really needed. I am so sorry for the hardships you are having and hope things get better soon.

Happy New Year to you, I think we may need to batten down the hatches because 2012 is going to be another really rough ride.

I am happy to say that 2011 was a year to get clutter free for me. I ended up taking so many things to Goodwill. Now everything has a place and I feel lighter. I hope to make better choices this year in my purchases. I am so thankful for my job and worry about all those that are suffering. When will the madness end?

I like the things Buttons had to say. Lots of goog things here said.
You are still in the throws of loosing your Dad. So your thinking is still unclear to you. It takes time sometimes more than we think it should. Look for light at the end of the tunnel its there.
I lost my job in 07, I'm still surviving. We must make life work for US one way or another.
Happy New Year and Peace to your heart.

Happy New Year! I, too, have been decluttering. If I can't eat, drink or in some other way use everyday, I don't buy it. Things are stuff & it just clutters space. Please keep the computer.....love all your writings!

I hear you. And all those occupiers are part of the 'hope and change' movement that didn't get things handed to them like they expected.

I am hoping and praying for some real change this year.

Please don't toss your computer though. Cut back if you want, but a lot of us would miss you. ♥

God bless you all with a prosperous New Year.

There are still places where they are building. North Dakota for one. I know, who would want to live there, but I think Arizona is one of the places some money and jobs may return to. You never know!

Very thought provoking post. We have family members who are barely surviving barely able to put food on the table so that is where my heart is trying to help where we can. These are such hard times for so many.
